The Mathematics Curriculum at St Mary's Catholic Primary School

St Mary's Catholic Primary School follows the National Curriculum's syllabus for Mathematics and utilises a range of teaching materials and resources to provide a varied, stimulating and challenging experience of this exciting subject. Our teachers plan for their classes using assessment for learning but are guided by Pearson's Abacus scheme of work to ensure that the school provides a consistent and systematic approach to the teaching of mathematics. The school has worked carefully with researchers associated with Pearson's to ensure that the scheme meets the needs of pupils around the country.

You can download a presentation that was delivered to parents and carer as part of a stakeholder engagement session in April 2017. Below you will also find our systematic approach to the teaching of calculation strategies which may defer to those that parents/ carers were taught at school.
